Your plant looks more like a callistemon to me. Do the leaves smell if you squash them? Callistemons don't smell of much. It it's a lemon-scented gum it'll smell lemony, but the leaves look wrong for that. you'll know what it is soon enough when it flowers - red bottlebrushes=callistemon.
